Blythewood's Late-Fall Calendar, From the Rodeo to Santa's Toyland

Between now and the Christmas Parade on December 13, nearly every community event in Blythewood happens at the same address: 171 Langford Road, the lawn of Doko Meadows Park in front of Town Hall. The farmers market finishes its season there. The Town's first Trunk or Treat is there, and so are the Holiday Artisan Market and the tree lighting. Only a few big dates happen elsewhere. The rodeo is out on Wilson Boulevard, and the parade runs through Main Street, Blythewood Road and Boney Road.

So the simplest way to plan the next eight weeks is around that one park, and around the weeks when the action moves somewhere else.

Why Doko Meadows anchors the calendar

The Town describes Doko Meadows Park as having an amphitheater beside a lake and a paved walking trail of more than half a mile. The trail has wooded and lakeside stretches, a bridge, a children's storybook along the way, and wheelchair and stroller access. The Blythewood Farmers Market lists paved accessible parking, public restrooms and a playground at the park.

All of that explains why the season's events cluster here. A family can park once, let kids burn energy on the playground, walk the lake loop while the music starts, and still be close to whatever is happening on the lawn. Each event below uses that same setup in a slightly different way.

This weekend, the action is out on Wilson Boulevard

The season opens away from the park. The Blythewood Fall Championship Rodeo runs Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24, at Prisma Health Arena, 10433 Wilson Blvd. According to the organizer's website, gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the rodeo starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $20 for adults and $12 for ages 6 to 12, and children 5 and under get in free.

The organizer lists eight competitions, including bull riding, bronc and bareback riding, timed roping, ladies' barrel racing and breakaway roping. It names the Blythewood Championship Rodeo Company as the producer, working with the International Professional Rodeo Association. Experience Columbia's listing also mentions clowns, pony rides, a mechanical bull, and food and fun vendors. That makes the arena worth the drive even for kids too young to follow the scoring.

If you want a sit-down meal before the 7:30 start, Beer Hunter Southern Grill opened this spring at 135-A Blythewood Road. The State reported that it opened April 21 with a menu of steaks, burgers, and shrimp and grits, plus craft beer, wine and cocktails.

The market's last three Wednesdays

Back on Langford Road, the farmers market is finishing its 13th season. It runs every Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m., and the season ends November 11. That leaves three market nights after this post goes up: October 28, November 4 and November 11.

October 28 has the most planned of the three. The market's listing for that night includes a Prisma Health flu-vaccine tent, food from Smokin Pot and Sonnie's Refreshments, live music from Freeway Music, and a POP Club activity for kids. If you've been putting off a flu shot, you can get one while you buy groceries for the week.

The market's vendor directory lists these farms:

  • Brigmon Farms
  • Crazy Chic Heritage Farm
  • Deckle Edge Farm
  • Doko Farm
  • Honky Tonk Farms & Apothecary
  • Murphy Farms
  • Sandmans Bees
  • Shag Farm
  • Two Creek Farm

Payment is flexible. The market's plan-your-visit page says it takes cash, cards, digital payments and EBT/SNAP. Every vendor accepts Market Bucks, which you can buy with a card, Apple Pay, Cash App or Venmo. A $5 minimum EBT purchase earns $15 in Healthy Bucks. Once the November 11 market is over, the Wednesday routine stops until spring. These three nights are the last chance this year to stock up from these farms at the park.

The day after a market night, the park goes costume

The Town of Blythewood is holding its very first Trunk or Treat at Doko Meadows Park on Thursday, October 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. Visitors get in free and are invited to come in costume, walk the decorated trunks and collect candy.

Families who would rather hand out candy can do that too. A trunk space costs $5, participants bring their own candy, and the Town asks that trunks stay family-friendly. The application is linked from the Town's event page.

The timing makes this a busy week for the park. Wednesday's market runs 4 to 7 p.m., and Thursday's Trunk or Treat runs 4 to 7 p.m. on the same lawn. Families who come to both will already know where to park and where the restrooms are.

Veterans Day, a few streets from the lawn

The Blythewood Historical Society lists its Veterans Day Celebration for Saturday, November 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The program includes a Quilt of Valor presentation, vintage vehicles, a Patriotic Guard and exhibitors. It comes between the last two market Wednesdays and is the main daytime event of early November.

After the market ends, the lawn turns into a gift shop

Ten days after the final market, the market's organizers return to the same park for the Holiday Artisan Market on Saturday, November 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 171 Langford Road. The organizers call it their seventh annual holiday market, featuring locally crafted gifts and decor. For anyone who wants to shop locally for the holidays, this is the market's last appearance of the year.

Eight days later, the lawn becomes the Town's holiday gathering spot. A Lake Murray Country listing gives the 2026 Christmas Tree Lighting as Sunday, November 29, at Doko Meadows. Music starts at 4:30 p.m. and the tree is lit at 5 p.m., followed by more music, dance, refreshments and Santa. The Town's own page lists the event in front of Town Hall but calls the date tentative, so check before you go.

The tree lighting also includes a "Fill the Sleigh" donation drive for Christian Assistance Bridge. Bring a donation along with your folding chair.

December 13 moves the season onto Main Street

The season ends off the lawn. The Town's Christmas Parade is Sunday, December 13, at 2 p.m., and this year's theme is "Santa's Toyland!" The route runs along Main Street, Blythewood Road and Boney Road. The Town lists Oakhurst Road and McNulty Street among the roads affected. The Town says the 2026 parade information packet will be posted closer to the date.

If your Sunday errands usually take you down Blythewood Road or Boney Road, plan for that afternoon now. Neighbors who live along Oakhurst Road or McNulty Street will want to get the car out before 2 p.m. or plan to stay put until the route clears.
